2010 TROVADOR, MAGNUM

2010 TROVADOR, MAGNUM

After spending two weeks in Catalonia in the summer of 2009, we continue to be inspired by the great wines of the region. What intrigues us is how the aromatics can be that of a cooler climate and the palate is warm like the sun that drenches the landscape. Bassetti Syrah has so much personality it can often overwhelm a blend. Colombini Carignan is more of a wallflower. The two together create a wine in which each varietal’s beauty is complemented by the other. Antique ruby in the glass. The nose shows aromas of cola, violets, black pepper, and wet coastal granite on a foggy morning. The palate is filled with warm spices, subtle oak and baked cranberries finishing with subtle yet chewy tannins. Best from 2015-2025.

“The 2010 Trovador is an unusual blend of Syrah and Carignane. Tar, licorice, melted road tar and savory herbs all add complexity to a core of dark red/blackish fruit. This is one of the more structured wines in the Villa Creek range. Although some rough edges remain, I imagine the 2010 will come together a little more fully with more time in bottle. I especially like the sense of vibrancy here. The 2010 is 50% Syrah and 50% Carignane fermented with 50% whole clusters.” 94 pts - Antonio Galloni
