2010 GATHERS NO MOSS, JBV, MAGNUM
70% Grenache, 30% Syrah, James Berry Vineyard, 247 cases produced
We had the good fortune to pick several varieties in one day. This enabled us to co-ferment in the cellar, which always achieves stunning results. This lot was the second pick (east facing) of Grenache off of Rocket Block and Syrah from the younger vines. They were co-fermented 50% whole cluster in tank, basket pressed a bit sweet and barreled into older French Puncheons for 22 months. This is a vivacious beast that loves to get out of its bottle and into your glass. The aromatics are explosive with notes of boysenberry, currants, pie crust, and spice. The palate is primary and seductive, filling one's mouth with lush dark fruits, cinnamon, and camphor. It carries the stuffing that begs for cellaring. If you do jump right into this decant it for several hours and serve at cellar temp. Drink 2015-2025

"A new wine for me, the stunningly good 2010 Gathers no Moss James Berry Vineyard is a blend of 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah that was fermented with 50% whole cluster and aged in 50% new French oak. Thrillingly dense and concentrated, with overflowing Grenache dominated aromas and flavors of kirsch, raspberry, licorice and tinges of chocolate, this beauty is full-bodied, voluptuously textured and oh so pure. Knockout stuff, enjoy it over the coming 6-7 years. Drink now-2020.
One of my favorite estates, Cris Cherry’s Villa Creek is located on the western side of Paso Robles, high up off Peachy Canyon Road. He continues to experiment with Rhone and increasingly Spanish (think Rioja and Priorat) varieties, as well as with varying amount of whole-cluster inclusion. The wines offer singular, unique profiles, with loads of flavor and character."
