Grenache can be big, dark and rich or it can be more translucent and bright depending on where it’s grown and the winemaker’s hand. We like to allow the sites to dictate the personality of the wine; in this case, MAHA Estate and Luna Matta. The combination of these two site brings sheer delight with the 2018 vintage. Luna Matta offers a darker profile with aromatics of black fruits, spice and mountain herbs while MAHA, shows a higher lever of energy and precision with a profile of pomegranate, bright red fruit, kirsch and spice. A dark ruby profile draws you to the glass while the aromatics take you down the rabbit hole. Steeped cherries, cured meats, crushed rocks and licorice transition to a generous palate with great purity, balance and grace. 2018 Garnacha strikes a perfect balance of fruit and savory framed by a modest structure that gives pleasure in the near term but also will allow for some time in the cellar. Drink 2020-2027.
"Dark, shimmering ruby. Expressive red/blue fruit, floral and exotic spice scents are joined by building licorice and succulent herb notes. Smooth and fleshy on the palate, offering alluringly sweet, well-concentrated black raspberry, cherry cola, boysenberry and floral pastille flavors sharpened by a snap of spicy white pepper. Shows superb energy and red-fruit-driven thrust on the finish, which hangs on with strong, gently tannic persistence." 95 pts - Vinous Media
