2016 This Way & That Way, $75

The Smith family was on the forefront of utilizing sustainable farming methods, like cover crops to build soil health, dry farming and working with the native flora and fauna rather than eliminating it. These are practices that are now common among top quality grape growers. In many ways, they were our inspiration to plant and farm the MAHA organically and Biodynamically.

This wine is a meshing of our two vineyards, the older James Berry vineyard deeply rooted (literally and figuratively) in the Willow Creek District, and MAHA, whose young vines enjoy similar soils and slightly less coastal fog at a higher elevation. Syrah, Mourvèdre, Grenache, Graciano and Petite Sirah create a full throttled hedonistic wine that is not for the faint of heart. It is inky and glass-staining with seductive notes of black fruits, smoked meats, citrus rind, and exotic spice. A core of great intensity is framed by polished tannins, offering great pleasure and length. Delicious now but built for the long haul, this wine will strut its stuff with some short term cellaring.

Drink now-2030.
