Susie and Ellis Bassetti live in a special place tucked in a small valley a mere 4 miles from the ocean. Their farm is abundant in fruit trees, native plants along with a plethora of plants from around the world that Susie uses for her dried floral business. The 9 acres of Syrah are planted on granite and serpentine. A long, cool growing season brings fruit that is so different than our west Paso plots.
Aromas are reminiscent of the Northern Rhone with white flowers, sweet olive tapenade and rocks intermingled with smoked chilies. The palate is lively and welcoming with notes of geranium, black fruits, and smoked meats. This wine screams Cote-Rotie with a slightly richer palate. Not a pop and pour wine, we recommend a good decant. Give it a few years in the cellar for maximum enjoyment. Drink 2015-2025
