Based in Grenache, Understory blurs the lines of power and finesse. It is a chameleon of sorts, full of angst and tension one minute, and charming and thoughtful the next. A vivid ruby color creates a disco ball effect in your glass. Notes of red fruits, orange peel, fennel pollen and curing spices transition to a palate that is smooth and energetic. Medium to full bodied, it is elegant and seamless with an underlying note of power (think Bruce Banner). This one is calling for MAHA Estate lamb chops topped with chimichurri and Moroccan spiced chick peas. Drink 2022-2034.
"The 2018 Understory will benefit from another year or two in bottle. Pale ruby-purple, it has blue and black fruits with touches of lilac, forest floor and licorice that take time to emerge.
